We're a Personal Lines Agency — and That's a Good Thing for Your Business

Cronin Insurance has built its reputation over three decades as a trusted personal lines agency — home, auto, flood, and umbrella. But life doesn't always separate neatly into "personal" and "business." We offer commercial coverage so that when our clients need it, we're already here for them. You get the same attentive, no-pressure service we bring to personal policies, applied to your commercial needs.

💡

A Note on Our Business Insurance Philosophy

We write business insurance primarily to serve our existing clients and accommodate new customers who need both personal and commercial coverage in one place. If your needs are highly complex or specialized, we'll be upfront about whether we're the right fit — or help connect you with the right resources. Our goal is always your best outcome, not just the sale.

Business Insurance Coverages We Offer

From the vehicles your team drives to the liability risks your business faces every day, we can help you build a commercial policy that makes sense for your operation.

🚐

Commercial Auto

Vehicles used for business need business coverage

Business vehicle protection: Covers cars, vans, trucks, and specialty vehicles used in your day-to-day operations.
Employee driver coverage: Extends coverage to employees who operate company-owned or leased vehicles.
Liability & physical damage: Includes bodily injury, property damage liability, collision, and comprehensive options.
Important: Personal auto policies almost always exclude business use — a commercial policy fills that gap.
⚖️

General Liability

Protection from third-party claims against your business

Bodily injury: Covers medical costs and legal fees if a customer or visitor is injured at your premises or due to your operations.
Property damage: Pays for damage your business causes to someone else's property.
Personal & advertising injury: Covers claims of slander, libel, or copyright infringement arising from your advertising.
Defense costs: Legal defense is covered even if claims are ultimately found to be groundless.
📋

Professional Liability

Also known as Errors & Omissions (E&O)

Who needs it: Consultants, real estate professionals, accountants, IT firms, healthcare providers, and anyone providing advice or services for a fee.
What it covers: Claims arising from mistakes, negligence, or failure to deliver services as promised — even if unintentional.
Legal defense: Covers attorney fees, court costs, and settlements that can otherwise be devastating to a small business.
Note: General liability does not cover professional errors — this is a separate, essential policy for service-based businesses.
🦺

Workers' Compensation

Required for most Florida businesses with employees

Florida requirement: Most Florida businesses with 4 or more employees (1 in construction) are legally required to carry workers' comp coverage.
Medical benefits: Covers an injured worker's medical treatment, rehabilitation, and related expenses.
Lost wage replacement: Provides partial wage replacement if an employee cannot work due to a covered on-the-job injury.
Employer protection: Helps shield your business from costly lawsuits arising from workplace injuries.
🛡️

Excess Liability

Extra protection above your existing policy limits

What it does: Provides an additional layer of coverage that kicks in when the limits of your underlying policy (GL, commercial auto, etc.) are exhausted.
Large claims: A single serious lawsuit or catastrophic accident can easily exceed standard policy limits — excess liability is your financial safety net.
Contracts & clients: Many vendors, landlords, and commercial clients require higher liability limits — excess coverage helps you meet those requirements.
Cost-effective: Buying higher limits through an excess policy is typically more affordable than increasing limits on each underlying policy individually.

Business Insurance FAQs

Do I need business insurance if I'm a sole proprietor or freelancer?
Florida law doesn't require most sole proprietors to carry general liability insurance, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have it. If a client claims you made a mistake, if someone is injured at your workspace, or if a contract requires proof of coverage, you could be personally exposed without it. Professional liability and general liability are strongly recommended even for solo operators.
Can I use my personal auto insurance for my business vehicle?
In most cases, no. Personal auto policies specifically exclude vehicles used for business purposes beyond simple commuting. If you or an employee is in an accident while using a vehicle for business — making deliveries, visiting clients, transporting equipment — a personal policy will likely deny the claim. A commercial auto policy is essential if vehicles are part of your operations.
What's the difference between General Liability and Professional Liability?
General Liability covers third-party claims for physical injury or property damage — like a customer slipping in your store or your crew accidentally damaging a client's property. Professional Liability (Errors & Omissions) covers claims that arise from the advice or services you provide — like a consultant giving guidance that leads to a financial loss, or a contractor who makes an error in their work. Many businesses need both.
Is workers' compensation required in Florida?
Yes, for most businesses with employees. Non-construction businesses with 4 or more employees (full or part-time) must carry workers' comp. Construction businesses are held to a stricter standard — coverage is required with just 1 employee. Agriculture has different thresholds. Penalties for non-compliance can be significant, including stop-work orders. We can help you understand exactly what applies to your business.
What does Excess Liability cover that my regular policy doesn't?
Excess Liability (sometimes called a Commercial Umbrella) doesn't add new types of coverage — it adds more coverage above your existing limits. For example, if your General Liability policy maxes out at $1 million and a judgment against you is $2 million, an Excess Liability policy would cover the gap. It's a cost-effective way to significantly increase your protection, especially as your business grows and faces larger contracts or higher-risk projects.
Do I need to switch agencies to get business coverage?
Not at all — that's exactly why we offer it. Many of our personal lines clients own or operate small businesses, and it made sense to serve them in both areas. You can keep your home, auto, and business coverage with one trusted agency. If your commercial needs ever grow beyond what we're best suited to handle, we'll be honest about that and help you find the right specialist.
