What if I have already purchased a service contract from my dealer?
Usually, you may cancel and receive a full refund if requested within 30 (or 60 days, depending on state regulations. Even after the complete refund cancellation period, you most likely would receive a prorated refund.
How do I cancel?
It is best to request a cancellation in writing to the dealership and the service contract company. The agreement material should also include cancellation instructions for your state.
The F&I Manager at the dealership said they will not honor coverage unless the contract is purchased from them. Is this true?
F&I Managers make a commission on service contracts that they sell. This is a scare tactic to get you to keep the service contract they sold you. If you have a mechanical failure and take your car to the service department most are glad to accept payment from any insurance company. The service managers get paid for generating service volume and cannot afford to turn away legitimate business. We (MSMC) pay full retail on parts and labor and provide payment through a major credit card. There is no reason for the dealership not to accept our coverage.
